June 26th – Talent

On this day so long ago, I went to an art museum with my friends and had the thought that appears in the first three lines of this poem. That, obviously, spiraled out into the entire poem and gave me one of the longest poems of the trip!

Talent

I wish I had the talent
To paint pictures
That look like photographs
Or move my body like the wind
And dance with fluid grace

I wish I had the ability
To climb the highest mountains
And celebrate from their peaks
Or win a million awards
For something that comes easily

I don’t

But I have the talent
To paint pictures
With vibrant words
And move my pen like the wind
To write down my dreams

I have the ability
To climb the highest mountains
With my characters
And win a million awards
For them too

All I need to do
Is never give up hope
And remind myself each day
That for each thing I can’t do
There’s something that I can

  1. Fantastic poem! Sometimes I get that annoying feeling like I can’t amount to anything b/c there will always be people who are better at things than me… but really, that isn’t the point! The point is to sing freedom, truth, feelings, etc with our own words. No one can ever have the exact same words as we do, so we are unique :3 No one is better at being ourselves than ourselves.

Great poem. I think everyone secretly wishes for a talent they don’t have. I write, but I secretly wish I could sing too 😉

  3. have fun!

    if you are free,
try to visit as many participants as possible,
    no obligations,
simply doing it for pleasure so that your work is exposed to as many poets as possible!
    thank you for the support.
    😉

    • I’m getting around to it, promise! Sorry if I’m much belated – I’m trying to finish up school and rather overloaded lol. I’m trying to get to everyone and more! 😀

  4. I truly love this. These are words that cross my mind every now and then. You did perfectly well with this piece. I feel the depth. Thank you for sharing. Well done.

    Cheers!

  5. letting you know I am getting your poem to my file so that it appears on Promising Poets Parking Lot…

I’d say you have talent for that.
    Cheers

  7. So very true…every word you wrote made me want to write 🙂 although i may add that i believe everything is possible and once we put our minds to it we most definetly CAN do anything we want…so take that brush and try to paint…you never know your words can form themselves onto a canvase 🙂
