My First Audiobook REACTION

I’ve finally done it. I’ve read my first audiobook. While me and Michaela’s joint review of said book has not yet been released, that is immaterial currently. What this is about is the process of listening to audiobooks, why I hadn’t up to this point, and how I felt about this first one. It also includes a request for recommendations for audiobooks from you guys, so PLEASE chime in!

  1. I found the joy of audiobooks about a year ago. I wasn’t reading nearly as much as I would have liked and since I can wear earbuds at work and listen to music I thought audiobooks would be a great fit! I don’t know why it took me so long to realize that. I’ve had this job for a few years and I just imagine all the stuff I could have already listened too! Kind of anit-audiobooks before 😉 I have been able to “read” so much more of what I wanted. I don’t remember what my first one was but by far my favorite was Illuminae By Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. It has a large cast and reminds me of old radio shows. Maggie Stiefvater books are great, includes her original music. Holly Black’s books have been good too. I went through the Outlander series. The narrator has the best voice. Overall I have enjoyed them all immensely except for one. I have physically read every JD Robb In Death book. One of my all time favorite series so I thought I’d give the audio a try on the last book. Its not that it was bad, but after having read 40 books in the series, I had my own voices for the characters in my head and the audio just didn’t match and felt wrong and ruined my experience. I know to actually read those now but my love of audio just keeps growing. Pierce Browns Red Rising series is another good one. Enjoy!

    • Oh I would be so curious to see how Illuminae translates to audio. Isn’t that the book with all the weird, atypical book pages? I’ve been wanting to read it for a while because it looks so cool. Some of the recommendations I’ve had coming in are for Maggie’s books, so that’s really on my list. I wasn’t a fan of her Mercy Falls series, but I’ve heard fabulous things about her Raven Cycle. Someday I’ll read more Holly Black, but I haven’t gotten there yet. Outlander is also on my list, if only because I love historical fiction. I haven’t heard of the other two series! Thank you so much for all these recommendations!
