Michaela and I are back with another Betwixt the Books Discuss! This one is all about prequel stories and novels, how you’re supposed to figure out the reading order kerfuffle they cause, and also I complain about the recent swath of YA prequel novellas coming out and whether they’re damaging the genre or not (specific references: Jodi Meadows’ Orphan Queen, Cassandra Clare, and Victoria Aveyard). Michaela also discusses the Hannibal book series and the Chronicles of Narnia.
LOOK. MICHAELA AND I MADE A VIDEO TOGETHER! We were tagged by the lovely Amanda Center to do this tag, literally at the moment when Michaela and I were searching for something to do as our first #bibliomansion video. Clearly, Amanda is tuned in to our thoughts. Check out this video for some great horror recommendations as well as a sneak peek into some upcoming Betwixt the Books and Bibliomancy for Beginners plans!
Okay, so, it’s not THAT much of a secret that Michaela and I have been working on moving in with each other for a while. HOWEVER, in case this is the first you’re hearing about it, it finally happened last Tuesday! I’ve been focused on getting moved in, but we’re getting ready to get this show on the road! My computer is still without some essential parts, so editing is difficult, but hopefully the piece (my battery) should be here by the end of this week! Here’s to moving on up!
It’s finally here! I’ve been discussing this book since I released my reaction to it as my first audiobook, but the review was not live until TODAY. So, here it is. Michaela and I both listened to the audiobook, and had an opposite reaction that led to a similar rating … somehow. I liked it more than I thought I would, and Michaela liked it less, but we still both rated it about a 3.5. Find out why!
Surprise Friday Betwixt the Books Discuss! content. A YouTube channel called Better Than Food Book Reviews posted a video a few days ago titled “Nobody Wants to Read Your S**t,” and we have some thoughts and feelings. Michaela and I really missed having these smart chats with you guys, and we’re pumped to talk about advertising, authenticity on YouTube, and unsolicited reviews. Enjoy!
LOOK AT HOW CRAZY THIS IS: Michaela and I are actually TOGETHER for this review, talking about the graphic novel Nimona. This has been in the works for a while, and it’s the cutest thing ever worth waiting for. We tried out recording ourselves via skype for this one, mostly because Michaela forgot her camera, and it had some hilarious results. Perfect for this book in cuteness level, really!
This happened a few days ago, but it DID happen! We got around Google Hangout and streaming issues to figure out how to stream from Skype. And then the audio wasn’t the best, but I swear the video IS interesting! It was quite a fun discussion, where we talk about fandom and fanfiction and why this book was set up to be disappointing. It was a nice bookend to our first discussion, about why Hermione may or may not be racebent in the books!
