August 2016 Wrap Up

So, maybe August wasn’t as great as July. It still wasn’t bad! I listened to 2 audiobooks, read 4 books and ticked off two more categories for my PopSugar Challenge. It also includes more re-reading than usual, but I’ve already admitted to that so. There you have it. Somehow I am still 2 books behind in my Goodreads reading challenge (I want to read 100, I’ve read 65), but I hope to pick those up soon!

10 Book Giveaway with author Dave Neuendorf! (INTL)

I get a lot of emails from authors who want to set up promo spots on my blog. Though, as you know, my life is currently imploding, I try to do the best I can with all of them. There’s never been anyone quite like Dave, though. When I suggested a giveaway for a free book, as I’m swamped with reviews, he said, “WHY NOT 10?” So here we are, with this great, internationally available giveaway with 10 chances to win! Let’s get to know Dave, shall we?

Writing fiction is a third career for Dave (David William Neuendorf). Trained as a chemist (BS, Valparaiso University) and metallurgist (MS, Purdue University), his first career was research and development in extractive metallurgy (developing processes for extracting metals from rocks). His second career, and current day job, is writing software as a contractor, using Java and its Swing user interface library. If you’re curious about that, his resume is available online. His third career as a fiction author officially began on February 7, 2016, when he published his first fantasy novel, The Summoned King, as a Kindle book on Amazon.

Interview + Giveaway with Carmen Ferreiro-Esteban

Hey guys! Would you look at this – content on a Thursday. I might be slacking, but there are some great authors out there who are doing you guys justice! One such author is Carmen Ferreiro-Esteban, author of Two Moon Princess and the soon-to-be released The King in the Stone. Let’s meet her!

DSCN5574-e1457049581624-300x246I was born in Galicia (Northern Spain) and went to college in Madrid, where I finished my Ph.D. in Biology. For the next ten years, I worked as a researcher both in Madrid and at the University of Davis in California.

My writing career started when I came to live in Pennsylvania in the 1990s. Following my first sale, a magazine article on latex allergy, I published four books for Chelsea House (Facts on File): Heroin, Ritalin, Mad Cow Disease, and Lung Cancer.

My Young Adult novel Two Moon Princess, (the story of a discontented medieval princess, eager to live life on her own terms, who lands in modern day California) was published in 2007 by Tanglewood Press. It was recognized with the bronze award by the ForeWord Magazine in the Juvenile fiction category. It’s also available now as an e-book.

Two Moon Princess won first price in the 2015 Latino Book into Movie Awards, family and children category.

Immortal Love, a paranormal romance, (Crimson Romance, 2012) follows my adventures in search of a literary agent in a contemporary alternate world where the late Spanish poets Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer and Federico García Lorca are immortals.

We are aware that this wrap up is late! Between Michaela’s car troubles and my senior week/graduation, this are the things that happen. Bear with us, friends, because once I graduate on Sunday there will be one less opportunity for disasters. Which will be replaced by my going back to work fulltime, but it’s okay. We’ll all be okay.

Interview with Kristen-Paige Madonia + Giveaway!

It’s finally here! If you caught my last From the Notebook, where I talk about exactly what I was up to during our hiatus, then you’ve probably been waiting for this for a while. Over the course of the New Voices Literary Festival, I was lucky enough to be able to sit down and interview Kristen-Paige Madonia, author of Fingerprints of You and the upcoming Invisible Fault Lines (to be released May 3). Not only was she gracious enough to talk to me for a while, but she ALSO singed a copy of Fingerprints of You that I am about to give away AND gave me some great swag! Before we get to that, though, allow me to introduce the fabulous Kristen-Paige!

downloadKristen-Paige Madonia is the author of the young adult novels Invisible Fault Lines (Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, 2016) and Fingerprints of You (Simon & Schuster BFYR, 2012). The interview and giveaway are coming, but first: logistics! This interview took place verbally over the course of 15 minutes. I transcribed it into what you are about to read, editing for general speech tics and creating full sentences–that kind of thing. Initially I thought I was going to edit it into something a bit shorter but … well … Kristen-Paige said too many smart things that I agreed with not to share them all with you! It’s a great read AND there’s a giveaway at the bottom, so here we go!
